Relief care.
A break for family carers.
Relief care, also called respite care, gives a person temporary support while a family carer rests, travels or attends to other needs. It can also give the person receiving care a change of setting and company.

At home or in a centre
Temporary care may be considered at home or through a suitable care-centre enquiry. Home care depends on the hours, tasks and address. A centre stay depends on the person's needs and a suitable place. Medwell must confirm either arrangement before the family relies on it.
Keep the familiar parts of the day
Share the person's usual routine, meals, mobility needs and communication preferences. Agree who the care team should contact if something changes and how information will be handed over securely.
Agree the dates and costs
Give the start and end dates, address or preferred centre, hours of cover and any nursing needs. Ask for a written quote showing what the temporary care includes. A family can ask before a crisis leaves little time to plan.
GOOD TO KNOW
What to discuss
- What are the start and end dates?
- What does the usual daily routine involve?
- Is care needed at home or in a suitable centre?
Medwell can confirm the care and local arrangements after discussing the person’s needs.
Talk through the next step
Tell Medwell where care is needed and what has changed. The team can discuss the service and what can be arranged.
