Frequently asked questions
When can I visit patients?
Out visiting hours are daily:
- Mornings: 11:00 – 11:30
- Afternoons: 15:30 – 16:00
- Evenings: 18:00 – 19:00
Our visiting hours are set so that every patient has uninterrupted time for rest, therapy and treatment. Thank you for respecting them, and for supporting your loved one on the road to recovery.
What can I expect at a sub-acute or step-down facility?
- 24/7 nursing care from trained nurses and care workers
- A general practitioner who does ward rounds once a day
- Physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists supporting your rehabilitation, as motivated by your referring physician
- A wound care sister available when needed
- Three meals a day, with a light snack in the evening
Who arranges authorisation from my medical aid?
We do — you don't need to make the call yourself.
- Your referring doctor sends a motivation letter to the hospital's administrative department (the case managers).
- That letter comes through to us at Lynnmed, and we contact your medical aid directly for authorisation.
- Once authorisation is confirmed, we let the hospital know so that your transfer can be arranged.
How will I get from the hospital to Lynnmed?
The hospital arranges your transport to Lynnmed by ambulance. The ambulance service confirms with us directly that your medical aid has approved the transfer, and once approval is granted they let us know your estimated arrival time.
What happens when I am admitted?
On arrival, our nursing and rehabilitation teams carry out a thorough well-being assessment. We complete the admission paperwork with you wherever possible; if there isn't time, we will ask a family member to finalise the forms at their first visit.
All medication and personal belongings are listed and stored securely, and any dietary requirements are passed on to our kitchen so that your meals match your medical needs.
What should I bring with me?
Pack much as you would a hospital bag:
- Comfortable daywear for rehabilitation sessions
- Nightwear
- Toiletries — toothbrush, hairbrush, soap, washcloth and the like
What should my family know?
Progress updates are shared by WhatsApp with one designated family member. Appointments with the consulting doctor at Lynnmed can be arranged telephonically between 07:30 and 08:00.
Family are welcome to bring clean clothing, flowers or gifts. If you have a particular request, tell us and we will pass it on. You are in capable hands, and our team works towards getting you discharged and home as soon as it is safe to do so.
